IAYT   

International Association of Yoga Therapists.  Founded in 1989, IAYT promotes yoga as a healing art and science.  Membership is open to yoga practitioners, yoga teachers, yoga therapists, health care practitioners who use yoga in their practice, and yoga researchers.  School membership is open to schools with yoga therapy training programs.

C-IAYT          

Certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists.  C-IAYT is currently open to individual yoga therapists who graduate from an 800 or greater IAYT accredited training program.  Graduates may apply for certification anytime after completion of their program.  All applicants must be IAYT members and agree to the IAYT Code of Ethics  and Grounds for Disciplinary Action, Use of the C-IAYT Credential, and review the Scope of Practice.

YA                  

Yoga Alliance is a U.S.-based nonprofit membership trade and professional organization for yoga teachers.

RYT-200        

Yoga Teacher registered with Yoga Alliance.  Has completed a 200-hour teacher training with RYS-200      

RYT-500        

Yoga Teacher registered with Yoga Alliance.  Has completed a 500-hour teacher training with RYS-500, or has completed a 200-hour teacher training with RYS-200 and an additional 300 hours of training with either the same RYS or a different RYS registered as a RYS 300.

E-RYT 200    

Yoga Teacher registered with Yoga Alliance.  Has completed a 200-hour training

with a RYS-200 and has at least 1,000 hours of teaching experience since completing training with a RYS-200 and has taught for at least 2 years since completing training with a RYS-200.

E-RYT 500    

Experienced Yoga Teacher Yoga Teacher registered with Yoga Alliance. .  Has completed a 500-hour teacher training with a RYS 500, OR Completed a 200-hour teacher training with a RYS 200 AND an additional 300-hour teacher training with either the same RYS (if it is registered as a RYS 300) or a different RYS 300.  Additionally, has at least 2,000 hours of teaching experience since completing training with a RYS 200 or 500. At least 500 of these hours must be taught after completing training with a RYS 300 or 500.  Has taught for at least 4 years since completing training with a RYS 200 or RYS 500

RCYT             

Children’s Yoga Teacher Yoga Teacher registered with Yoga Alliance.  Has completed a 200-hour teacher training with a RYS 200.  Completed a 95-hour teacher training with a Registered Children’s Yoga School (RCYS).  Has at least 30 hours of teaching experience in children’s yoga since completing training with a RCYS.

RPYT         

Prenatal Yoga Teacher Yoga Teacher registered with Yoga Alliance.  Has completed a 200-hour teacher training with a RYS 200 and completed a 85-hour teacher training with a Registered Prenatal Yoga School (RPYS) Has at least 30 hours of teaching experience in prenatal yoga since completing training with a RPYS.

YACEP           

Designates experts in the yoga community who teach courses that qualify as continuing education hours for RYTs.

RYS               

Yoga School Yoga Teacher registered with Yoga Alliance.  Designation is available to schools with a teacher training taught by qualified instructors and a curriculum that meets Yoga Alliance standards.

RCYS

Children’s Yoga School Yoga Teacher registered with Yoga Alliance.

RPYS

Prenatal Yoga School Yoga Teacher registered with Yoga Alliance.

CBIS               

Certified Brain Injury Specialist, certified by the  Brain Injury Association of America.

LMT

Licensed Massage Therapist

acronym – word formed from the initial parts, e.g. letters of a name.  Examples: NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), NAMA (National Ayurvedic Medical Association).

initialism - group of initial letters used as an abbreviation for a name with each letter pronounced separately.  Examples: PBS (Public Broadcasting System), RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher).
